Facile fabricated transparent anti-smudge coating with high hardness and excellent flexibility from MTQ and branched silicone resins

2024-07-04 08:42

Researchers found that the use of MTQ silicone resins and branched silicone resins (HPSi) in an organic-inorganic hybrid coating system makes it possible to achieve high hardness and excellent flexibility while improving transparency and anti-smear properties.

The research proves that these special organic-inorganic hybrid coatings can be produced with a hardness of 7-9H and a bending radius flexibility of less than 2 mm, while maintaining their anti-smear properties even after repeated exposure to steel wool over 1000 cycles.  Source: Ilja - adobe.stock.com

The demand for high-transparent functional coatings with glass-like hardness, polymer-like flexibility, and anti-smudge properties has increased significantly, especially for foldable touchscreens. However, it is challenging to achieve all the required properties in a coating because the realization of these properties may conflict with each other. In this study, we present a facile method for preparing a special organic-inorganic hybrid coating by utilizing epoxy MTQ silicone resins and amine-terminated hyperbranched polysiloxane (HPSi).
