Metal packaging coatings without bisphenols and PVC
2024-07-29 08:45
The European Commission continues to phase out the use of bisphenols, while the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), NGOs and retailers are increasingly concerned about plastics being used in food packaging. Akzo Nobel has developed metal coatings without bisphenols and PVC.
According to the company, a benefit for coil coaters is the way the “SecurshieldTM 500” integrates into their existing manufacturing processes, allowing them to use a single technology to meet the varying needs of food can manufacturers. They also state that can makers are able to take advantage of the flexibility and working capital benefits of having a single product suitable for a wide variety of metal food packs.
Chris Bradford, Marketing Director for Akzo Nobel’s Industrial Coatings business says: “The new product range was developed in response to changing legislation and the European food packaging industry’s eagerness to transition to more sustainable alternatives.”
