According to Bloomberg and Der Aktion?r, BASF has initiated a sale process for its Coatings business. The unit could be valued at around EUR 6 billion, with several bidders already showing interest.
BASF has reportedly launched a sale process for its Coatings division, according to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter. Over the past weeks, the German chemical company is said to have shared initial information about the business with potential buyers.
The division – which includes automotive refinish and industrial coatings – could be valued at approximately EUR 6 billion, according to the report. US private equity firm Carlyle Group and paint manufacturer Sherwin-Williams are reportedly considering a joint bid. CVC Capital Partners and Lone Star Funds have also expressed early interest.
Further details were reported by Der Aktion?r, stating that BASF is exploring strategic options for the Coatings business, including a possible sale or partnership. Documents outlining the business unit have already been sent to interested parties. BASF is currently undergoing a broader restructuring and has previously signalled its intent to critically review its portfolio. No official confirmation regarding the potential sale has been issued to date.
