Hz info,Nippon Paint Marine’s globally pioneering self-polishing copolymer (SPC) antifouling coating, AQUATERRAS – the first to eliminate biocides – has achieved its first application in China at CSSC Chengxi Shipyard Co., Ltd. (Changhong International) in Zhoushan. The coating was applied to the 5,610 TEU container ship Wan Hai 613, owned by Wan Hai Lines Ltd. ("Wan Hai"), during its docking and painting services.

Debuting as a China premiere exhibit during the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE), this successful local application of AQUATERRAS marks its substantial transformation from an "exhibit" to a "commercial product." It also signifies a crucial step for Nippon Paint in advancing the green transformation of China's shipping industry and its decarbonization journey.

Leveraging this collaboration, AQUATERRAS will utilize its cutting-edge technology to provide efficient and eco-friendly marine coating solutions for more local shipowners, continuously empowering the high-quality, sustainable development of China's shipping industry.

As one of the world's largest container shipping companies, Wan Hai has long adhered to its corporate philosophy of "Environmental Protection, Sustainable Operation" . In recent years, aligning with the industry's decarbonization trend, Wan Hai has actively promoted green initiatives across its fleet, including selecting coatings that enhance vessel operational performance and sustainability. Since 2016, Nippon Paint's A-LF-SEA and FASTAR series antifouling coatings have provided energy-saving solutions for over 30 vessels in Wan Hai's fleet. Building on this partnership, Nippon Paint and Wan Hai have deepened their collaboration, expanding from newbuildings to docking services. This project marks the first application in China of the innovative, eco-friendly coating AQUATERRAS, providing green antifouling protection for the vessel and jointly contributing to a low-carbon marine ecosystem. This collaboration not only reaffirms AQUATERRAS' outstanding performance but also stands as a significant milestone for its localization.

As an environmentally friendly marine coating, AQUATERRAS innovatively employs an eco-conscious formulation and polymer technology that is friendly to marine life. It actively repels biofouling on hull surfaces, mitigating ecological risks caused by biofouling accumulation and species migration, thereby effectively safeguarding marine biodiversity. Furthermore, AQUATERRAS significantly enhances vessel operational efficiency, reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Compared to the market average, vessels coated with AQUATERRAS can achieve fuel savings of up to 14.7%, substantially lessening environmental impact. Recognized for its innovation and superior performance, AQUATERRAS was awarded the "Seatrade Maritime Technology Award" at the 2023 Seatrade Maritime Awards, earning professional acclaim within the industry.

The successful commercial application of AQUATERRAS, initially showcased at CIIE, powerfully demonstrates Nippon Paint's commitment to "Sharing the CIIE Opportunity" and fulfilling its pledge of "In China, For China." Leveraging its global supply chain capabilities and technological strengths, Nippon Paint will continue to drive innovation, delivering high-performance green coating solutions to more local shipowners and shipping enterprises, accelerating the industry's journey toward a net-zero emissions future.
