IMCD, a global distributor and formulator of speciality chemicals and ingredients, has launched a new construction laboratory in Jakarta, Indonesia. This addition integrates with the company’s existing coatings laboratory, creating a unified technical centre aimed at advancing formulation innovation and providing tailored solutions for the coatings and construction industries across Southeast Asia.

The coatings laboratory, operational since 2018, underwent a significant refurbishment in 2024 to enhance collaborative efforts among technical experts, customers, and principals. The new construction laboratory builds on these developments, focusing on formulation optimisation and troubleshooting for products such as dry mix mortars, flooring resins, and waterproofing systems. In coatings, the laboratory will continue to support decorative paints, industrial metal coatings, automotive coatings, and more.

Regional hub for innovation

This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to addressing the specific needs of Southeast Asia’s dynamic market. By bringing coatings and construction expertise under one roof, the laboratory facilitates faster development cycles and improved technical problem-solving.

The Jakarta site is also part of a broader investment strategy in Indonesia. Recent milestones include the establishment of the food & nutrition laboratory, the pharmaceuticals technical centre, and the global microbiology laboratory. Together, these facilities position Indonesia as a critical hub for the distributor’s technical and operational activities in the Asia-Pacific region.

Strengthening regional partnerships

Pimsiraya Vichaidit, Director of Coatings & Construction for Asia-Pacific at IMCD, emphasised the collaborative advantages of the new setup. “By combining our coatings and construction laboratories, we can deliver solutions that are more aligned with regional realities while driving innovation more effectively,” she stated.

“This milestone reflects the commitment and teamwork of our local and regional teams, working closely with our partners,” adds Naihong Yang, Technical Director, Coatings & Construction, Asia-Pacific, at IMCD. “It is about creating practical, high-quality and sustainable solutions that help our customers move faster and help our customers advance faster in their product developments.”

The unified laboratory also supports customer training initiatives, ensuring that stakeholders can adopt sustainable, high-quality solutions tailored to their needs. These efforts underline the company’s focus on co-creation and technical excellence in its regional operations.
