Covestro Expands TDI Production Capacity in China

HZ info, Covestro has successfully completed a majordebottlenecking project at its TDI (toluene diisocyanate) production facility inShanghai, China. The company has increased the annual production capacityfrom 310,000 to 370,000 metric tons, representing a 20 percent expansion thatstrengthens Covestro's position as a leading supplier of TDI in the Asia Pacificregion. The capacity expansion at Covestro Integrated Site Shanghai (CISS) comes inresponse to growing customer demand for TDI, a key component used primarily inflexible foams for furniture, mattresses and automotive applications. Thedebottlenecking project was completed on schedule and will enable Covestro toprovide more reliable supply to customers throughout the region.

The site, located in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park, is one of Covestro'slargest production facilities worldwide. The successful debottlenecking projectinvolved optimizing existing production processes and infrastructure rather thanbuilding new production lines, resulting in a more resource-efficient approach tocapacity expansion.

TDI is an essential component for producing flexible polyurethane foams, whichprovide comfort in furniture, mattresses, and car seats.
