Avoiding Low-Price Involution, Taiji Paint Expands Overseas with System Solutions

Starting as a traditional paint factory in Taizhou, Zhejiang Taiji Paint Co., Ltd. has evolved over more than four decades into a high-tech enterprise integrating R&D, manufacturing, sales, and construction of water-based architectural coatings. In 2025, despite industry-wide headwinds, the company achieved steady growth driven by functional coatings such as solar-reflective insulation and thermal insulation materials. General Manager Zhou Hangfan encapsulates the company's core positioning as "a total solution provider for water-based functional architectural coatings."

Aligned with the "Better Homes" initiative and green building material policies, Taiji Paint has been included in official supply chain directories. Leveraging an integrated model of "products plus standardized application," the company delivers comprehensive coating solutions to general contractors and property developers. The metrics of market demand are being reshaped: energy efficiency compliance, long-term durability, environmental compliance, and comprehensive warranties now take precedence, with life-cycle cost replacing mere procurement price.

While competitors remain focused on decorative coatings, Taiji Paint has shifted its technological priority toward energy-saving functionality, establishing a complete chain from R&D and production to standardized application. Its in-house professional application team deeply integrates product performance with on-site construction, systematically addressing common issues such as wall water seepage, cracking, and inadequate insulation. The team engages early in project design and provides full-process technical inspections and warranty services, forming a closed loop from solution design to after-sales support. Zhou Hangfan predicts: "In the future, energy-saving functional coatings like solar-reflective insulation are set to become standard, and industry competition will pivot to life-cycle value."

With the goal of becoming a "well-known functional coating brand both domestically and internationally," Taiji Paint continues to strengthen its laboratory testing capabilities and quality management systems, while progressively pursuing local certifications in target markets. Regarding overseas expansion, Zhou Hangfan identifies the primary challenge as "localized channels and supporting application services—coatings, as semi-finished products, cannot truly take root without a local service network." Leveraging differentiated products such as solar-reflective insulation, Taiji Paint can effectively avoid low-price competition in the general coatings segment. Over the next three to five years, the company will adopt a "cautious trial, model-first" strategy, focusing in the short term on market access certification, overseas distributor networks, and demonstration project implementation.

As the architectural coatings industry shifts toward water-based, low-carbon technologies, multifunctional products and integrated solution delivery, increasingly stringent regulatory standards are expected to accelerate the exit of smaller companies lacking sufficient technological capabilities. Zhou Hangfan noted: “Buildings are a major source of energy consumption. Thin-layer functional thermal-insulation coatings are easy to apply and impose less structural load, making them suitable for both new green buildings and the renovation of existing residential communities. They offer a cost-effective solution for reducing carbon emissions from buildings and have significant long-term growth potential.”

Looking ahead to the 15th Five-Year Plan period, Taiji Paint will advance the intelligent upgrading of its production lines in Taizhou, strengthen its focus on high-value-added functional coatings in the Yangtze River Delta, and further enhance its integrated capabilities spanning R&D, manufacturing and application.
